According to a new poll from the Harvard CAPS Center released Monday morning, Donald Trump has achieved a positive net favorability rating in a stunning 19 point turnaround since the events of January 6th, 2021. This poll marks one of the first times in recent history that Trump has achieved this milestone, with the only other poll demonstrating a positive favorability rating for the president-elect coming from McLaughlin & Associates just two weeks ago.
Trump has fluctuated in approval but held consistently under 50% since his first campaign in 2016 with his lowest approval rating average being 38% in the immediate aftermath of the January 6th Capitol riots. He now sits at 47% favorability according to the new Harvard/Harris poll, while 46% of respondents view him unfavorably.
The former president (and now President-elect) overcame a substantial disadvantage in favorability rating in the 2024 election to surpass Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the national popular vote. Vice President Harris’ favorability average on November 6th was -2%, while Donald Trump’s was -8.6%.
